The English Revival of Traditional Kitchens: Great British Bake Off

Sep 20, 2018 | Blog | 0 comments

Although our great British summer weather came to an abrupt end over a month ago. The new series of Great British Bake Off is still well underway in true British spirit! Undoubtedly, There may have also been a few changes in the tent (we still miss you Mel, Sue & Mary) but the old GBBO magic is still alive, kicking us into our kitchens to bake!

There has always been something other than the sugary-tears, sweat, and flour being whisked together by the contestants, that draw our attention whilst watching Great British Bake Off. Above all, what really makes us crave more is the show’s English revival of traditional kitchens. Therefore, this continues to make us feel like we should put on our smartest apron and get our hands working into some (clean) flour! We know kitchen envy is a massive thing, especially when watching GBBO. So, we’ve put together the perfect guide for your very own traditional kitchen.

The Power of Pastels

Firstly, it’s all about the pastel colour schemes and contrasting textures for that cosy GBBO kitchen style. As a result, generously applying these soft and soothing accents of colour, will most definitely please the eye. Complementing those delicious cakes that are sure to be created in the inviting space. Furthermore, consider soft-pastel colour schemes, via appliances and kitchen cabinets. Secondly, The kitchen island could also be an influence on your pastel quest. Recently becoming a fundamental staple to any domestic and social kitchen space. In short, we’d say think of calm light-sage kitchen cabinets. Softly contrasting undertones complemented with a natural wooden workstation. Lastly, pairing this palette with a marbled-effect Silestone worktop proves well, just like fresh dough!

Technical Challenge

Forget the marquee, what we love about traditional kitchens is how you can achieve that classic style, perfectly fitting for Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian homes. Which is popular with so many of our customers, but yet they can incorporate the most up-to-date technological advances in the appliances.

If you’ve been paying as much attention as us, on the kitchen features on Great British Bake Off, you would have noticed that the oven doors suddenly disappear once they’ve been opened. This is no camera generated trickery. Neff has an oven they call ‘Slide&Hide’, which is the only oven door that slides away under the oven cavity. As a result, providing easier access to the oven, basting, tasting and monitoring your bakes. A genius solution for sure! It’s also packed full of technical features handy to any keen baker. For example, dough proving settings and specific bread baking modes!

Upgrade your traditional kitchen with another ultimate GBBO product from Neff, a warming drawer. Perfect for keeping those chocolate-filled brownies warm for your tea party later! In addition, it’s another great place for leaving the dough to rise.
