The Two-toned kitchen

Two-toned kitchen cabinets is a trend that’s not going away, and it doesn’t take much to realise why this style is catching so many people’s attention. Whether or not you are having a custom-designed kitchen, or having a go yourself, two-toned kitchen cupboards and cabinetry add an inviting dynamic to your space.
There are many different colour combinations to choose from; but in the end, the goal is to create a cohesive space with just the right amount of contrast. Here are a few ideas on how to get the look right:

Think beyond paint
If you’re not a bold colours kind of person, don’t worry, there are plenty of other ways to get the two-tone look. One of them is to use different materials for your cabinet design. A wood finish would be a good option, combining it with laminate for a stylish look or a glass and aluminium combo to give the kitchen an industrial feel. If you’re planning on mixing and matching, your starting point should be to choose your kitchen style and the materials you’d like to use. This will help form the design and ensure you get the style and look you want.

How about darker on the bottom
Make a statement by using a bold colour on the bottom cabinets and a lighter colour on the top. This two-tone design will help ground the space and the lighter top cabinets will make the space look bigger by drawing the eye upward. If you go down this particular two-tone route, you could also consider an Ombre appearance. In both instances, the key is to copy the lighter colour in other areas throughout the room.

Make something the focal point
Picking out a focal point is a great way to achieve the two-toned look. A kitchen island, for example, is an excellent starting point, because of its central position in the layout. By painting it in opposite colours from the rest of the kitchen you draw the attention to various angles of the room. When you decide where to apply your focus point, think about the colour, It could be a big bold shade that stands out or something a little more subtle. Some popular colours on-trend at the moment are dark blues and inky greens.
